Coaches often look for training forms that are versatile and easy to set up. The double square fulfills these requirements and is extremely versatile as a training form. It is particularly suitable as a complex passing and combination exercise during the warm-up.

A big advantage of the double square is that the variations can easily be adjusted to the number of players. This way, you can perfectly warm up the whole team or groups of 10 or more players with different pass sequences. Simply vary the field size and the task and thus achieve different training goals with one training form.

This book dives into one-touch Tiqui-Taca training through an extensive Double Square progression, starting with fundamental passing, dribbling, long balls, and combinations like wall passes, third-man plays, overlaps, coordination work, and finishing actions. It moves into advanced variations featuring multiple balls, outside players, diagonal patterns, and corridor support.

The second part introduces competitive Double Square rondo formats—ranging from 3v1 to 8v2—with layered support players and evolving constraints, followed by scoring over the inner square and full game forms. It concludes with goal-shot variations such as 6v3, 8v4, and several assisted 3v1 to 5v2 setups, blending tight possession play with direct finishing.

The UEFA A-license coach was among others at the Sportfreunden Katernberg (Oberliga) and in the U19 of FC Schalke 04 active. Building on his experience as Coordinator of the Schalke youth department and organizer of numerous soccer schools - a concept he brought to Germany from the USA in the early 1990s - he founded the Institute for Youth Football (IFJ96).
